What Udio is

Udio generates music from text. You describe a genre, mood, instrumentation or lyric idea, and the model returns a finished track with vocals and instruments; you can extend a section, remix a result, or supply your own lyrics. The platform also hosts a public feed where users publish and listen to each other's tracks, which doubles as a way to hear what the model can do before paying. Tracks run a couple of minutes by default and are extended section by section rather than regenerated whole. Rights are the part to read carefully: the terms distinguish between personal listening, commercial release and ownership of the generated audio, and they differ by plan and by jurisdiction. Vocals are convincing but not always intelligible, and structural control is coarser than in a DAW — you steer with prompts and extensions, not with a piano roll.

Best for

  • Demo tracks and background music for short video
  • Ideas to hand to a songwriter or producer
  • Experiments across genres without session musicians

Not ideal for

  • Final masters that need precise control over arrangement
  • Release plans without checking the commercial licence

Pros

  • Full songs with vocals from a text prompt
  • Section-level extension instead of full regeneration
  • Public feed shows real output before you pay

Cons

  • Lyrics can be unclear and pronunciation slips
  • Arrangement control is coarse compared with a DAW
  • Commercial rights depend on plan and jurisdiction

Pricing in detail

The free plan includes a limited number of generation credits per month for non-commercial use. Paid tiers raise the monthly credits, add commercial rights and allow more concurrent generations; annual billing lowers the monthly cost. Credits are spent per generation and per extension, so a long track costs more than a short one. Because licensing terms change and differ by region, confirm the current commercial terms on the pricing page before releasing anything publicly.
